SNOWBIRDS AT LAST! WINTER ROADTRIP - 2011

Here we go again!  This is the first time we are able to take a roadtrip in the winter.  Our business closed out at the end of December 2010, unlike prior years, where we worked through March each year.   With Tony at the 10th Annual Scotty's Duck Hunt in Chincoteague, VA, the plan was that I drive to meet him on Jan 12th after the hunt ended, and we would continue on to pick up the motorhome in Alabama (we left it with the manufacturer for some repairs and maintainence at end of our summer trip).  However, Mother Nature had other plans - the forecast was a severe snowstorm due on Jan 12th, so I left a day early - and good thing:  It turned out to be a real blizzard, dumping 2 FEET of snow in Connecticut!!

This is a side view of our house, emailed to us by our neighbor, Linda.
I've never seen this much snow at home!!

This is the view from our neighbor Dan's front door!  It's the best he could do,
since he couldn't get out of the house!!

I would have been snowed in, aching to leave for the trip :-(

We drove south from Chincoteague across the Chessapeake Bridge and Tunnel, where we saw a unique sight:  Ahead about 5 miles, we watched as a tanker passed over what seemed like the roadway, but it was over one of the two tunnel sections.  Quite unusual - wish we were closer and had the camera handy.

We're driving the Jeep, which will soon transform into our towed car, and in it, are all the items we keep at home for the winter, ready to be taken into the motorhome each year.  There is so much stuffed in the car, that we look like The Beverly Hillbillies!   Just call me Granny! ..........Hey! Wait!  Somebody DOES call me Granny!!!

We have 2 full days of driving until we reach Red Bay, Alabama.  It has been below freezing at night there, but its due to warm up just in time for our arrival.....We planned it perfectly!
